Whitley Named Project Coordinator for Marshes Light Development

MANTEO – (Sept. 13, 2007) Kitty Hawk Land Co. has named Lee Whitley to serve as Project Coordinator  for the Marshes Light waterfront development in addition to her duties as marketing and sales director.

In this new role, Whitley will serve as the primary local contact with the Town of Manteo and the community at large on issues related to the ongoing construction and completion of the development.

“Recognizing that we need to be as transparent as possible and build and maintain good communications with the town, Lee is a very good fit for this,” said Mickey Hayes, president of Kitty Hawk Land Co., in making the announcement.  “Lee brings many strengths to this role but most important, she is credible, respectful of others and a good listener. She also has a good perspective on the community having lived on the Outer Banks and been associated with Kitty Hawk Land for almost 30 years.”

Whitley will become more involved in direct dialogue with the Town Council, Planning Board and others through each phase of construction and the review and approval process,  Hayes said. While Hayes and members of his team will continue to participate in meetings and reviews with the town, it will be Whitley who serves as the day-to-day contact and whose responsibilities include direct dialogue with the council, its boards and the public.

“This project is complex and given the investment that the Town has made in terms of a planning and review process, it really needs somebody like Lee to serve as a direct liaison on the key issues,” Hayes said.

“I’m glad to serve in this role because I have a great interest in seeing this project through to the completion of construction and beyond,” said Whitley. “Our company has a reputation for designing and building the very best kinds of developments and we want to achieve the same with Marshes Light.”

The Town Council recently approved occupancy permits for the first of two initial condominium units in Marshes Light and Kitty Hawk Land anticipates completion of the next phase in late 2008.  In addition, construction of single family homesites is under way.

Marshes Light is a planned 14-acre waterfront community adjoining historic Manteo’s  downtown waterfront district with a mix of planned homesites, condominiums, a marina, inn and waterfront shops with residences above. It includes an extension of the existing 30-foot wide public park and boardwalk all along its waterfront and is architecturally consistent to make the transition from ‘old to new’ as seamless as possible.
